Happy August!! It seems like we are finally getting some summer weather here. Luckily we still have a whole month to enjoy it before school starts. For the last few weeks, we have been darting in and out of town with our mini road trips and camping, hence the lack of blogging. If the weather continues to be nice, it will be so hard to blog. We do not get this kind of weather often, so when we do, we take full advantage of it before we hibernate for the cold winter.
Anyway, one of the weekend trips that we did was to Portland, Oregon. I love Portland especially the tax-free shopping and of course the food. Before we went to Portland, we have heard a lot about their bustling food truck/street food scene but I will have to say that until I actually saw it, I had no idea of the magnitute of the food trucks. They were practically everywhere! The interesting thing is that they were set up in pods, a gathering of several trucks. Some pods are facier than others. The fancier pods have a eating tent set up in the center of the pods and even an ATM machine since most of the food trucks only accept cash. Other pods, especially the ones in downtown Portland, are just set up in a parking lot without a fancy eating tent.
Here’s a glimpse at one of the pods – D Street Noshery located at 3221 SE Division St, Portland.
Unfortunately we did not try any of the food truck here this time since we just had a heavy dinner at Pok Pok across the street. However we did have the chance to try out one of the food truck – Koi Fusion when it came up to Seattle for the Mobile Chowdown last year. Love the Korean-Mexican fusion food. The Kimchi Quesadillas and Bulgogi Taco were just awesome.
And I thought this was a fun one – The Dump Truck! Very creative name, don’t you agree? They sell dumplings. Too bad we didn’t get to try this since they were not open during the weekend that we were there. I would love to try their bacon cheeseburger dumpling. Sounds interesting!
Since we were there on a public holiday weekend, we only managed to try a few of them. I will highlight a couple of them in the next posts. In the end, some were good while others were not. Overall, it was a really fun experience checking out all the food trucks.
