Thanksgiving

TurkeyPlatter

What would Thanksgiving be without a traditional Thanksgiving meal?? This year, we had 2!! One at a friend’s house and another at home. This is what we ate at home. Turkey, ham, stuffing, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce & dinner roll. Yummy!

Strawberry Yogurt Marshmallow Cake

Made this for a friend’s farewell lunch. It was delicious although it didn’t turn out looking like the original recipe & that’s because I ran out of gelatine powder & had to substitute with agar-agar powder.Lesson learned???? NEVER substitute gelatine powder with agar-agar powder!!!Results of substitution: 1. Texture - firm instead of a little jiggly like jello, 2. Looks-loss of transparency effect.

Original recipe from here:

Loh Mai Kai

LohMaiKai

Dunno why the dim-sum restaurants here in US do not serve Loh Mai Kai. Instead they serve glutinous rice in lotus leaf which I am not too fond of ‘cos the smell of lotus leaf is too overpowering. So I still prefer this Malaysian version.Using this recipe http://kuali.com/recipes/viewrecipe.asp?r=1329 with some modifications:

  • Instead of steaming the rice, I stir fry the uncooked rice with some chopped onion, dried shrimp and the seasoning (B)
  • Stir fry the chicken & mushroom together till semi-cooked.
