It was dumpling festival last week. I haven’t made dumplings in a couple of years. Every year, usually around the dumpling festival time, B always talked about the yummy spicy rice dumpling that his mom made every year. So this year, I finally decided to try making it for him. Since the spicy dried shrimp sambal for the filling is not available for sale at the stores here, I had to make my own. It was a simple 5 ingredient dish: dried shrimp, dried chili, garlic, shallots and sugar. The ingredients were simple but the cooking process was so tedious. It took me more than one hour to fry the ingredients in a wok till it all dried up. I think it will be a while before I make it again. The dumpling post will be coming up next.
