in Chinese, Eating Out By Cuisine Type

School is finally out and I feel a sense of relief. Someone tell me why the schools try to squeeze so many programs in the last 2 weeks of school. Field trips, field days, concerts, summer birthday parties etc.. It seems like there was a program everyday. I was so glad when it was the last day of school.

Due to the crazy schedule, we have been eating out way too much especially fast food. One of the day, we decided that we had enough of fast food and headed down to the International District for a simple meal. This is one of our favorite restaurant to go to whenever we are in the mood for congee and chinese doughnut.

Out of curiousity, have you noticed that a lot of chinese restaurants have different names in English and Chinese? For instance this restaurant is called Homestyle HongKong Cuisine but in Chinese, it’s called “Lai Lai Cafe”. :P

This restaurant specializes in claypot congee and rice. This time we ordered a claypot fish congee. I love claypot congee because the claypot keeps the congee really hot for a long time. Don’t be deceived by the simplicity of this dish. Underneath the top layer, there are actually fish filets.

We also ordered Chinese Doughnuts. Congee and Chinese Doughnut goes hand in hand. Soak a piece of Chinese Doughnut in a bowl of congee is super yummy. If you have never tried it together, you should. Lil’ C though likes it plain.

We also ordered a bowl of dumpling. These pork and shrimp dumpling are DH’s comfort food. This restaurant definitely does not have fancy food, rather it is the simple comfort food for a lot of people.
