Lily Cake

It has been 6 months since I made a birthday cake. There were a couple of cake request in between that I had to turn down due to time and health constraints. But all was well last week, so I made a birthday cake for sweet little M who turns 2! It seems just like she was born yesterday but she’s 2 now. Time flies!

Anyway, when M’s mom asked me to make a cake based on her favorite toy, I was a little skeptical because I am still a little wary of making figurines. Then I figured maybe I could just buy a figurine and stick it on the cake like this Pony cake that I did. To my surprise, as popular as the Leapfrog gang is, there are no Lepafrog products out there besides their electronic books and games. Even when M’s dad tried to find party supplies, there were none. Strange! I guess they are definitely not as heavily marketed as the Disney characters.

Anyway back to the cake, here’s what M got for her birthday!!!

Lily Cake

In case you are not familiar with this character, it is Lily from Leapfrog ! Lily is made from Fruity Pebbles and covered in marshmallow fondant. The cake itself is my first fondant covered cake. Usually I cover the cake with buttercream but I decided to use marshmallow fondant. It also makes it easier to transport. The cake is a 4 layer buttercake sandwiched with strawberry buttercream. All other decorations were made with either marshmallow fondant or gumpaste. Do you see 2 little bees on the cake? 😛

Lily Cake

Here’s the cake with the actual Lily toy. What do you think? Any resemblance?? 😛 Overall I was pretty happy with how it turned out. 🙂 Maybe I’ll do more figurines from now on.
