Kitchen Tip: Freezing Bacon

Posted at 7:43 pm under Freezing, Kitchen Tip

Do you love bacon? Well, I do especially for breakfast. Yum! Unfortunately since bacon is not the healthiest of food, I try to avoid eating too much in the recent years. However there are some days when some dishes just screams for a little sprinkle of bacon like baked potato, mashed potato and even salad.  All I need is just a slice or two. So what do I do with the rest of the bacon?

Freezing bacon

I take each piece of bacon individually, roll it up and wrap it with clingwrap. Then keep all of them either in a ziploc bag or a container before throwing them into the freezer. This is so that when I need another slice the next week, I don’t have to defrost the entire bag of bacon again. It is easy for me just to take one or 2 each individual pieces and cook them.  Of course, this freezing method is not practical if you are able to finish up your pack of bacon in a couple of days. :)

Stumble it!

Here is another suggestion for freezing bacon and this one only results in having a greasy mess to clean up one time. I make the entire package of bacon cooking it to about 90% cooked. I then freeze the cooked bacon strips between folds of wax or parchment paper inside a ziplock bag. When I want a strip or two I easily pull the wanted strips out of the package, wrap them in a paper towel and microwave for about a minute to finish off the cooking process and crisp them up.

I have the same idea as Lisa except I wrap a few cooked strips of bacon with aluminium foil and just throw into the freezer. I also do the “80%” bacon esp when we go camping…much less mess and a shorter wait for b/fast!
